The Cross - Jesus Delivers: Diving Deeper
See Jesus
This week, Pastor Merodee told us the story of Balaam, a soothsayer who was hired by the king of the Moabites, enemies of Israel, to declare a curse over the Israelites.
The King of Moab led Balaam up to a high place where he could look down on the Israelites and curse them, but God spoke to Balaam and told him to only speak what God told him to say.
God had given the Israelites specific instructions on how to set up their camp, in the shape of a cross with the tabernacle at the very centre of their camp.
When Balaak tried to find a curse for the Israelites, he only found blessings to say! Balaam said, "How can I curse those whom God has not cursed?"
When he tried to curse them again, he instead said, "No misfortune is seen in Jacob, no misery observed in Israel. The Lord their God is with them."
When he tried a third time he said, "“How beautiful are your tents, Jacob, your dwelling places, Israel!"
When Balaam looked down at the Israelites camp, he saw the cross, and where the cross is applied no curse can prosper.
This is a picture of what happens when we put our faith in Jesus and the cross of Christ is applied to our lives.
Galatians 3:13 says, "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us."
On the cross lays every curse! Jesus took these curses upon himself and they were crucified along with him, so that we would not have to live under the curse anymore.
Family, God has not cursed you. No misfortune is seen you, no misery is observed in you. The Lord your God is with you. How beautiful are your homes and dwelling places!
This week, it is good for us to remember and dwell upon the fact that God loves us, He does not hate us. God blesses us, He does not curse us. God speaks well of us, citing the perfect righteousness of Jesus on our behalf.
Let's not curse what God hasn't cursed. Let's not see and speak misfortune where God has declared strength and victory. Instead, let's agree with the blessing that God speaks over us, the ones He loves ❤️
